The Vitalware Help

The Vitalware Help is a browser-based help tool that operates like a modern, responsive website (adapting to the device on which it is viewed), with top navigation, context sensitive menus and a powerful search utility.

When working with Vitalware the Help can be accessed in a variety of ways:

Click Help in the Command Center to open the Vitalware Help in your default web browser.

Alternatively:

  • Select Help>Contents & Index from a module Menu bar
  • Use the keyboard shortcut, ALT+H+C

The What's this? button is located on the far right of the Tool bar in almost all Vitalware modules. It provides direct access to a topic in the Help:

  1. Click What's this?.

    The cursor will change to a pointer with a question mark.

  2. Click an object, field or button in the module window, or even a button in the Command Center:

    The Vitalware Help will open to a page with details about the thing clicked; in this example, details about how to run a search.

Vitalware is a highly customizable system that can be tailored to the requirements of every institution that adopts it. For example, all and more of the following can be customized by a Vital Records Office:

  • Registration tables can be modified or completely redeveloped to match local legislative requirements.
  • The security aspects of Vitalware are completely configurable. New groups can be added. Individual user profiles can be modified from their associated group profiles.
  • Certificates, in fact all products, can be designed on a site-by-site basis.
  • The Vitalware modules are separable, which means that third party systems can be used for some functions (e.g. use of a third party POS or imaging system).
  • Institutions can purchase a source licence to Vitalware, enabling any form of modification to be applied.

As a result each implementation of Vitalware may differ. In this documentation a generic version of Vitalware is used. Although you may find that the screenshots do not match your implementation of Vitalware in all details (field, tab or module names may differ for instance), the techniques demonstrated in this documentation are relevant to all Vitalware systems.

Furthermore, there are often several ways to accomplish a task in Vitalware. For instance, a new record can be created by clicking New Record in a module Tool bar, by selecting File>New Record in a module Menu bar, or by using the keyboard shortcut, CTRL+N. The first time a process is documented in this Help, every method to complete it is given. Thereafter only one method is given (we don't list every method to create a new record every time a process instructs you to create a new record). Keep in mind that there are often several ways to accomplish the same task.
